The Shrink and the Shrunk
THE HOSTS: Motivational speakers and authors Gary Marino ("Big & Tall Chronicles", "The Million Calorie March") and Dr. Howard Rankin, ("The TOPS Weight Loss Plan", "Inspired to Lose").
THE CONCEPT: Pair up a highly credentialed psychologist (Rankin) who specializes in eating and addictive disorders and behavioral psychology with a lifelong food addict (Marino) who has managed to lose 150 lbs BUT continues to struggle with maintenance and achieving his goal weight.
THE PERSONALITIES: Dr. Howard Rankin, with his polished, educated persona and English accent (he relocated to the United States in 1986) has an uncanny knack for witty humor rarely seen in a psychologist. He delivers first rate advice and support, but can surprise viewers with signature one liners and even sarcastic wit. After growing up in England, Rankin possesses English wit and humor - and after 20 years in the United States he possesses a sharp sense of American humor as well. Rankin has appeared on ABC's 20/20, CNN and radio programs across the country.
Co-host Gary Marino is one part motivational speaker, one part stand up comedian who always serves up a large order of self deprecating humor. After struggling to lose 150 pounds and launching a 1200 mile walk of the eastern seaboard (2004's "Million Calorie March") to raise awareness of obesity - Marino humanizes the journey to health for viewers having struggled his entire life and finally achieving health. He can agree with Howard Rankin's advice one minute - then agree with an audience member the next minute if he feels that Howard's advice is next to impossible. Marino has appeared on FOX News, ABC's "Live with Regis and Kelly", over 150 morning radio shows as well as featured articles in People Magazine and USA Today.
