The foundation’s creative wellness campaigns – inspired by the remarkable personal story of founder Gary Marino – provide a valuable opportunity for employers, health plans, schools, wellness centers and other organizations to instill a culture of healthy and positive living.
In a country where nearly 70% of Americans are overweight and millions give up on their health if they struggle to lose weight, our goal is to get and keep people engaged in their health regardless of what the numbers on the scale may read.
Generation Excel’s launch in 2004 has been fueled by our “Impact Campaigns” involving tremendous feats of willpower, resolve and advocacy. Campaigns such as North Carolina’s “Million Step March” (2008), Pennsylvania’s “Million Pound Meltdown” (2006), and South Carolina’s “Inspiring Wellness” (2009), as well our “Walking & Talking Tour” from Florida to Boston known as the Million Calorie March (2004), have reached over 80 million people in the United States. Proceeds of these campaigns and events fund our grants and donations to childhood obesity and children’s fitness programs from coast to coast.
Indeed, our subsequent success nationally with over 200 events in addition to the 2008 award winning documentary “Million Calorie March: The Movie” illustrates the potential for Generation Excel to have a major impact as it expands its motivation, inspiration, and education to America’s schools, corporations and associations.
