The Million Pound Meltdown is a first-of-its-kind 'health and wellness' program in the nation that challenges overweight residents to lose a combined one million pounds and reverse the obesity epidemic that is gripping our region. Sponsored by Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania, WBRE, and WYOU, the Meltdown helps you to spring into action and take control of your health—resulting in a longer, healthier life.
The Million Pound Meltdown began in June, 2005 with a 14-day county-by-county walk by Gary Marino, a former 400-lb. 'food addict' who lost 150 lbs. while walking from Florida to Boston. The tour stopped in 13 counties, with Gary and crew walking extensively between stops. Each stop featured fun, informative events to focus people on wellness.
