The Dream Maker

A dream is just an idea - good as it may be - until someone comes through with the foresight and willingness to make it a reality. In autumn 2003, Gary had worked relentlessly for three years on his dream, undeterred by rejection upon rejection from corporations and potential donors.

And then one day, Gary vented his frustration to his friend and client, Todd Patkin.

With not a split-second of hesitation, Todd realized the potential impact the Million Calorie March could have on the growing epidemic of obesity. While never having experienced the problem himself, Todd immediately saw the need for a drastic measure - and having known Gary for some years, instantly recognized Gary's ability to be the positive influence sorely needed by so many.

You could call him a benefactor, you could call him a philanthropist, you could call him a giver. But while he is all those things, we who have seen Gary's dream turned into reality prefer to call him a dream maker.

Todd G. Patkin is part owner and president of the Autopart International company with its 59 stores servicing New England and upstate New York. The company also sells its products through out the United States, Canada and Mexico via the telephone to other wholesale distributors.

Mr. Patkin is also an avid philanthropist often putting most of his efforts into exciting new initiatives that otherwise might not have obtained the resources needed to succeed. Two of these 2004 initiatives are this incredible walk in order to bring awareness to the terrible effects and increase of obesity in America today and The Todd G. Patkin Opera-tunity Performing Arts Center, an inspiring project to bring the wonder of the arts to the many communities surrounding Easton Massachusetts as well as to many inner city children who otherwise would be unable to have access to such a program (http://www.operatunity.org).

Also, Mr. Patkin is the Major Gifts Chair for the Jewish National Fund for Eastern Massachusetts, he works closely on and gives significant support to the Rodman Ride for Kids and Mr. Patkin sits on the Board of Trustees for the New England B'nai B'rith Sports Lodge.
